Alec Baldwin incident: FBI forensics report finds gun trigger pulled

WASHINGTON: An FBI forensic report concluded that the trigger of the gun that caused a fatal incident on the set of Alec Baldwin’s movie “Rust” last year was pulled, United Press International (UPI) reported .

Baldwin, 64, made headlines last year when the actor’s .45 Colt prop gun he used while on the set of the film claimed the life of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins.

The Golden Globe-winning actor previously claimed he did not pull the trigger of the gun.

According to a forensic report obtained by ABC News , if the gun is fully locked, it cannot fire “without a trigger pull even though the internal components are working fine.”

The weapon will also not function with in-quarter and half-cock positions, according to the report.

However, the weapon can function without pulling the trigger if the casing is filled with ammunition and the de-cocked hammer taps directly.

Baldwin told ABC News in an interview last year that “the trigger of the gun was not pulled.”

The case has been turned over to the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office for further action, CBS News reported Friday.

Detectives and sheriff’s officials received an FBI forensic report on Tuesday.

Detectives from the Suffolk County Police Department in New York are working to obtain Baldwin’s phone records and the records are expected to be received and released soon, investigators told CBS News.

“The district attorney’s office worked with Suffolk County PD, and Baldwin’s attorney, to obtain the phone records,” Santa Fe County Sheriff Adan Mendoza said in a statement.

“After Suffolk County PD sent the records to New Mexico law enforcement, our detectives had to carefully review the phone records for evidentiary purposes,” he said.
