After 40 years at the helm of WWE, Vince McMahon announced his retirement

VINCE McMahon announced his retirement as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of WWE after 40 years at the helm of the world’s largest professional wrestling organization.

McMahon, 77, made the announcement in a statement released by WWE on Thursday and via a brief statement on his Twitter page.

According to media reports, it is a follow-up to the investigation of allegations of sexual misconduct against him.

However, McMahon informed that his decision to retire was due to age factors.

“Having reached the age of 77, I feel it is time for me to retire as Chairman and CEO of WWE.

“Throughout the years I’ve been here, it’s been a privilege to help WWE bring you joy, inspiration, thrills, surprises and constant entertainment.

“I want to thank my family for contributing so much to our success, and I also want to thank all the Superstars and staff, past and present, for their dedication and passion for our brand,” said McMahon.

In addition, he also informed that for the time being, WWE will be managed by his daughter Stephanie McMahon who is the interim Chairman and CEO and also WWE President Nick Khan.

Both of them will play the role of Co-CEO.

So far, it has not been confirmed who will replace McMahon, but there are reports that Khan will take over.

There are also some other names mentioned such as his son-in-law who is also a WWE star, Paul ‘Triple H’ Levesque, as well as his two children Shane and Stephanie.

The history of McMahon or known as ‘Mr McMahon’ in WWE began after he bought the World Wide Wrestling Federation (WWWF) from his father, Vince McMahon Sr, in 1982.

He then changed the name to Word Wrestling Federation (WWF), before rebranding it to WWE (World Wrestling Entertainment) in 2002.

In addition to being the leader, McMahon also made an appearance in the ring and faced several famous wrestlers such as Hulk Hogan, Ric Flair, ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin, Shawn Michaels including his own son, Shane.

In fact, he has also won the ECW and WWF championships, and won the Royal Rumble in 1999.
