AFF Cup: ‘I have no problem postponing concerts’ – Jay Chou
KUALA LUMPUR: After various parties voiced their dissatisfaction, Taiwanese singer Jay Chou announced on Friday that he is ready to postpone his concert at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium on January 15.
In an update on his IG Story, the lyricist, actor and television personality said the postponement could be done if the country’s football fans inform the sports association and stadium management about the matter.
“Malaysian football fans, I know you take football seriously. I can cooperate and postpone the concert, no problem.
“But the important thing is that you have to tell the football association or the organizers of your place whether they allow me to postpone the concert.
“I have no problem with that, I just want to sing for my fans. I just hope that when people come to see my concert, they come with a happy heart,” he was quoted as saying in the statement.
Earlier, national football supporters were unhappy after 21,000 seats at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium had to be vacated to make way for Chou’s concert stage installation work.
As of Thursday, 59,000 tickets for Malaysia’s semi-final against Thailand scheduled to take place on Saturday were sold out.
Minister of Youth and Sports, Hannah Yeoh said the installation of the stage structure at the concert location was pre-ordered by the organizers since March 2019 and it was impossible to change the situation considering that it also involved a large number of crew.
Yeoh also stressed that he should not abuse his power simply to ‘sacrifice’ the 43-year-old Taiwanese singer’s concert.
