Actors need to be sensitive, the entertainment industry doesn’t have to go overboard – Awie

MELAKA: The country’s legendary rock actor and singer, Datuk Ahmad Azhar Othman or Awie advised actors to be more sensitive in performing an action so as not to be against Islam and thus spark controversy.

He said the local arts and entertainment industry in the country should not be at an open level with scenes that are outrageous and not suitable, especially for Malay and Muslim actors.

“We sit Malaysia, the incident (hot action) is not justified, but if they are acting in the foreign country it is up to them.

“After this, if possible, drama or film directors, they should try to avoid scenes with such elements,” he told reporters after attending a press conference with the Wings Group for the ‘Wings Raikan Cinta Ramadan’ Breaking Fast program at a hotel here today.

Earlier, the country’s entertainment industry was shocked by the controversial action of actor Zul Ariffin who uploaded a video on Instagram social media that displayed a “achah advertisement” of a hot scene of a drama before deleting the post and making an apology.

Commenting further, Awie, who is famous for his iconic character Husin in the sequel “Hantu Kak Limah”, said that the action was seen as “scratching charcoal” and not suitable for the country’s entertainment industry.

Today, the Minister of Communications and Multimedia, Tan Sri Annuar Musa through his Twitter account made a statement that Zul Ariffin will be investigated under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 after making illegal posts on social media.
