PETALING JAYA: Reaching 5G networks covering 80 percent of populated areas and offering affordable prices to the people are two of the government’s main goals before the end of 2023.

The Minister of Communications and Digital, Fahmi Fadzil explained that a meeting with Digital Nasional Berhad (DNB) and telecommunication companies was also held to reach an agreement to meet the target.

“After the Prime Minister announced on Friday, the goal to be achieved is comprehensive access to the 5G network as well as reasonable prices for the people. This becomes a guideline for the Ministry of Communications and Digital (KKD) which is the ministry that regulates DNB’s activities.

“I have requested an immediate meeting between DNB, the Malaysian Multimedia Communications Commission (MCMC) and all telecommunication companies. (Including) Celcom-Digi, Maxis, YTL, U Mobile, Telekom Malaysia, all present at the meeting,” he said in the meeting. media after officiating the Selangor State JUSTICE Information Enhancement program, on Sunday.

“The government will announce the direction of 5G implementation before the end of March. I believe that is the Prime Minister’s message for all parties to sit together to examine, assess, formulate a joint direction.

“After all, DNB is managed transparently, the involvement is comprehensive with all telecommunications companies,” he added.

In the same program, Fahmi also revealed the government’s initiatives to reduce the price of internet subscriptions in the country.

Among other things, is the Unity Package offer with half the price and three times faster starting February 28, 2023.

Meanwhile for residents in the People’s Housing Project (PPR), they will enjoy a reduction in the price of Unifi’s fixed broadband internet subscription from RM89 to RM69 by March 2023.

In addition, Fahmi also informed that from March 1, MCMC will enforce Mandatory Standard Access Pricing (MSAP) which will lower the overall broadband subscription price.

“Starting March 1, it is possible that in a short time from now, the bandwidth of all other services will also decrease. This is one of my efforts to reduce the price, make sure it is fast,” he added.
