18 roads around the capital were closed for the National Day celebration program – PDRM
KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 18 roads around the capital will be closed from 6 am to 12 noon to make way for the National Day celebration program on 31 August.
Head of the Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department, ACP Sarifudin Mohd Salleh said among the roads involved were Jalan Travers, Jalan Damansara, Jalan Damansara (direction to Bangsar), Bulatan Hishamuddin, Jalan Kinabalu (direction Selayang), Jalan Kinabalu (direction Cheras), Jalan Kinabalu (Dato Onn Roundabout), Kuching Jalan, Dato Onn Roundabout (from Parliment Jalan), Dato Onn Roundabout (from Jalan Sultan Salahuddin), Jalan Tun HS Lee, Jalan Gereja, Jalan Hang Kasturi, Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman, Jalan Raja Laut , Jalan Munshi Abdullah, Jalan Dang Wangi and Jalan Bunus 6.
He said, on August 26, Jalan Sultan Hishamuddin and Jalan Raja will be closed to make way for the skeleton parade.
“On 27 to 29 August a full parade will be carried out and all routes leading to Jalan Raja (Merdeka Square), Jalan Travers towards Dataran Merdeka, Jalan Damansara from the direction of Seremban Highway, detours to Jalan Travers and Jalan Damansara from the direction of Parliament towards Bangsar will be closed,” he said when interviewed by Bernama Radio, today.
In addition, he said, the road at Hishamuddin Roundabout, Jalan Kinabalu in the direction of Selayang and Cheras will be closed during the full parade, with all vehicles being directed to Selayang.
“On August 30 there will be no closure while August 31 is the day of the parade,” he said.
Sarifudin also advised the public to use public transport which will start operating from 4am on August 31 to go to Dataran Merdeka to avoid congestion.
He added that all roads will be reopened in stages after the celebrations are over.
He said 175 officers and policemen were monitoring and controlling every road closure intersection around the capital on that day, he estimated that about 50,000 people were expected to attend the celebration.
