“BTS plays a big role in spreading the word about Busan. I’m optimistic that if Busan hosts the World Expo in 2030, it will bring many economic benefits to the country, for example creating more job opportunities for more people here,” said the Busan native. to Bernama.
For Lee Yuna and Kim Min Gyeong, the concert has also drawn the world’s attention to Busan.
“It’s a free concert and it’s really surprising, seeing how the concert was able to make a big impact on the city of Busan. We’re proud to see how effective the message they conveyed by organizing the concert tonight,” said the high school student from Seoul.
BTS, who were chosen as public relations ambassadors for the bid, signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Busan city government in June this year.
Among other things, the MoU aims to promote the city for a prestigious convention by the Bureau of International Exhibitions (BIE).
The World Expo is the biggest international festival besides the World Cup and the Olympics.
The organization of the expo is estimated to contribute an economic impact worth 61 trillion won (US$49.1 billion), Yonhap news agency reported.
South Korea is competing with two other countries — Italy and Saudi Arabia — to host the expo, and the final selection is expected to be announced in November 2023.
